David Dornfeld Receives AMT's Charles F. Carter Jr. Advancing Manufacturing Award

The Technology Issues Committee of Association of Manufacturing
Technology (AMT) created the Charles F. Carter Jr., Advancing
Manufacturing Award to honor academia's contribution to the
advancement of manufacturing, especially related to members of AMT.
Each year this award is bestowed upon an active faculty member
teaching at an accredited U.S. university who is recognized as
contributing to the advancement of the manufacturing industry by:

-   Providing enabling research that has been put into practice; and

-   Is most respected in providing highly qualified students.

This year's recipient is Dr. David Dornfeld, Chairman of the
Department of Mechanical Engineering, Laboratory for Manufacturing
and Sustainability, University of California at Berkeley.  Dr.
Dornfeld is specifically recognized for his research toward
advancing the understanding of burr formation and prevention,
sustainable manufacturing, micro-machining, precision manufacturing
and chemical-mechanical planarization.  His research has found
active utilization in such companies as Caterpillar, Ford, and Mori
Seki.  Dr. Dornfeld is recognized as a visionary who easily bridges
the span between basic research and measurable industry use and
impact.  He has placed more than 100 students in both academic and
industry positions.

Dr. Dornfeld will be recognized for this award at the 2012 Manufacturing Technology Forum, March 7-8, 2012 in Orlando, FL.
