Mark A. Maher was appointed General Director of GM Global Propulsion Systems South America (GMSA) in July 2017, reporting to the VP Global Propulsion Systems and Executive VP & President, GM South America. The GMSA Propulsion Team leads the integration, application, localization and homologation of propulsion systems for vehicles in South America and other select global markets. Mark serves as a member of the GMSA Executive Committee.
Mark has served in a variety of leadership positions at General Motors. These include: Propulsion Executive Lead for the separation of Opel-Vauxhall from GM, Global Chief Engineer Propulsion Integration, Director Vehicle Performance for Front Wheel Drive and Performance Vehicles and Director of Powertrain Integration for North America Cars and Trucks. Maher joined GM in 1985 holding a series of positions in emission measurement, emission certification, powertrain calibration, vehicle-powertrain integration, chassis-powertrain engineering and vehicle development.
Maher received an M.S.E. and B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.S. in Economics from the University of Michigan.
Mark has represented GM in government, philanthropic and education roles including: University of California, Berkeley Mechanical Engineering Industrial Advisory Committee (2017-present); GM Key Executive for the University of California, Berkeley (2014-present); SAE Foundation of the Board of Trustees (2008-2014); U.S. Department of Energy Technical Advisory Committee for the Biomass Research and Development Initiative (2005-2011); GM Executive for U.S. Department of Energy Collegiate Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions (2000-2006).
