Our Mission – EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND DIVERSITY
One of the greatest things about being a student, faculty or staff member at UC Berkeley is the opportunity to interact with a very diverse community. Both the ME Department and the Berkeley campus as a whole have a strong tradition of embracing diversity as a strength. It is our belief that we can better tackle important technological challenges by bringing together brilliant individuals with different perspectives. To that end, we place a high value on providing an environment that is welcoming, free of discrimination and harassment, and is conducive to productivity and academic satisfaction.
Ricky Vides and I serve to guide activities that promote diversity and inclusion in ME programs, to make the environment here more welcoming and supportive for students, and to assist students if problems arise. You can submit anonymous feedback through the ME Feedback Form or contact one of us:
We can be sources of information regarding outreach programs and diversity related activities in ME and the Campus. We encourage our students to become involved in outreach activities, such as spending time in local schools to stimulate student interest in science and engineering. If a student experiences discrimination or harassment, it is our goal to provide assistance and take steps to help prevent a repeat occurrence. If illness, stress or other personal problems are making it difficult for a student to succeed academically, we can connect them to services on campus that can help them overcome the problem. Below are links to a variety of resources that we can help students access if problems arise:
We hope that all our students will find the ME community here to be supportive, both personally and academically. If questions or problems arise, please do contact us.
