Our Mission – EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND DIVERSITY
One of the greatest things about being a student, faculty or staff member at UC Berkeley is the opportunity to interact with a diverse community. ME has a strong tradition of embracing diversity as a strength. It is our belief that we can better tackle important technological challenges by bringing together brilliant individuals with different perspectives. To that end, we place a high value on providing an environment that is welcoming, free of discrimination and harassment, and is conducive to productivity and academic satisfaction.
We guide outreach activities that promote diversity and inclusion in ME and assist students, if problems arise. We encourage our students to become involved in outreach activities, such as spending time in local schools to stimulate student interest in science and engineering. If a student experiences discrimination or harassment, it is our goal to provide assistance and take steps to help prevent a repeat occurrence. If illness, stress or other personal problems are making it difficult for a student to succeed academically, we can connect them to services on campus that can help them overcome the problem. Alternatively, students can submit anonymous feedback (ME Feedback Form) or contact one of us.
