Fall 2023 – ME Student Access Machine Shop Safety Orientation Training
Registration process begins Wednesday 8/28/2023
Registration and successful completion of our prerequisite, bCourse ME Student Access Machine Shop Orientation, MUST be completed before signing up for hands on training.
The hands-on portion of the safety orientations will be offered from 9/6/2023 through 10/27/2023
The Mechanical Engineering Student Access Machine Shop is available for students who will be working on projects and research related to our academic mission (see the requirements listed below). First scheduling priority will be given to our supported undergraduate courses.
In order to use the ME Student Shop, students must complete our training course. Training in another shop or location does not qualify the individual to work in our shop.
If you’re interested in getting access to the Student Machine Shop and receiving the required training, please fill out the following form: ME Student Access Machine Shop Training Request Form
If approved for access to the Student Shop (see requirements below), you will receive a link to the required online safety training course. Once you have completed this course, you will need to visit the Student Machine Shop (1166 Etcheverry Hall) in order to sign up for the hands-on portion of the training. This training is only available at the beginning of each semester, and it consists of five hours of in-shop instruction while covering safe work practices and machine tool competency. The five hours of safety orientation must be conducted within an eight-hour work day. Please refer above for safety training dates. Shop hours for sign-ups are 8:00 AM- noon and 1:00- 5:00 PM. The training begins promptly at 8:00 AM, and ends around 3:30 PM. There will be no “Caltime” late arrivals.
