Purpose: Band saws are powered saws that use a continuously toothed blade to cut material. The continuous blade is stretched between two wheels that rotate when the machine is powered and drive the blade. This machine is often used to cut oversized material into smaller pieces that are more manageable on higher precision machines. When cutting, it dispenses a liquid coolant onto the blade to ensure lubrication and reduce excessive heat. Horizontal band saws are equipped with a vise fixed to the machine which is used secure the material being cut. This makes the machine best suited for cutting longer linear shaped stock that would otherwise present challenges on a vertical band saw.
