Purpose: The Romer Absolute Arm is a portable 7-axis coordinate measuring machine (CMM). It has the ability to accurately measure features on parts using a ruby touch probe or a laser scanner. The touch probe is capable of accurately measuring the diameters of bores and cylinder diameters, distances between faces, planes, and points, angles between features, and much more. Additionally, the probe is capable of determining cylindricity, perpendicularity, parallelism, concentricity, and angularity of various features. The laser scanner scans objects and produces a point cloud that can eventually be converted into a solid model. The laser scanner is ideal for reverse engineering existing objects for further modification. The touch probe is ideal for ensuring parts meet geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements. Together, the touch probe and the scanner make the Romer Absolute Arm an extremely powerful measuring device.
